Mistake in the nationwide data from January to March, 2018 (apology)

It has come to our attention, that there was a mistake in data concerning the “Electricity Generation and Demand – Nationwide”, “Renewable Energy Share in Electricity – Nationwide” and “Data Search – Nationwide” graphs from January to March, 2018. We sincerely apologize to anyone who used those charts.

An inspection system enhancement is in the works, which will provide accurate data and avoid such accidents in the future. Corrections are being made right now, however it is estimated for them to appear on the website around mid-February. We are very sorry for the inconvenience and ask for your patience and understanding.

The cause of this issue is due to a mistake pertaining to the category in regard to nationwide data, which employs records from both the Tohoku Electric Power Company and other companies. As a result, the original electricity generation data had appeared in the wrong section, as described below:

For example, the hydroelectric power generation of the Tohoku Electric Power Company in the nationwide data had been replaced by data concerning nuclear power generation.
The same applies to the following categories:

  • Nuclear→Hydro
  • Solar PV→Geothermal
  • Biomass→Wind curtailment
  • Wind→Solar power

This mistake is found in data having to do with the “Electricity Generation and Demand – Nationwide”, “Renewable Energy Share in Electricity – Nationwide” and “Data Search – Nationwide” graphs from January to March 2018. The data of the Tohoku Electric Power Company itself is displayed correctly.

Consequently, nationwide data from October 2018 is also published by the Organization for Cross-regional Coordination of Transmission Operators, Japan (OCCTO). In view of this, we plan to refer to this data and strengthen our inspection system. An update of data from July to December 2018 and a summary of 2018 is planned. Thank you for your continued cooperation.
